Last week this post discussed our age of spreading Erdoğanisation. We wrote, “the world system is struggling to reproduce itself. As the global order breaks down, it generates insecurity and confusion, as well as hunger and deprivation. Into this gap steps the symbolic security offered by the hard right. Across the globe we are witnessing the hard right overtake the traditional right and swell its electoral appeal.”
We pledged to confront this swelling Reactionary International. Today, we announce a new tool to do so.
Coups. Assassination. Unrest. Disinformation.
We know the tactics that have been used to weaken our democracies and strengthen the Reactionary International. But who is behind them?
The insurrections in the United States Capitol and in the Plaza of the Three Powers in Brasilia left no doubt about the global coordination of the reactionary forces. Yet too little is known about the entities in this network, their sources of funding, and their institutional allies that operate within our political systems.
That is why are launching a new research consortium on the Reactionary International: to trace the connections between politicians, platforms, think tanks, funding sources, foundations, publications, judges, and journalists that make up this global network, and to support democratic systems to make them more resistant to his sinister tactics.
In recent years, a wide range of research centres, investigative publications, and non-governmental organisations have made revelations about the operations of the Reactionary International in different regions around the world. Our ambition is to connect, combine, and support these initiatives to bring a global perspective to this research — and a global infrastructure to guarantee a policy response.
