China’s early push to develop its EV industry had two drivers: first, resource security (mitigating its dependence on oil imports); and secondly, leapfrogging complex internal combustion engines to pioneer a brand new industry.
Beijing should avoid retaliating and remain focused on winning the EU over in the context of China’s geopolitical rivalry with the US.
