Bersatu aims to trigger 6 by-elections
Bersatu has set in motion a move that could lead to as many as six by-elections.
The party has instructed all elected representatives to affirm their loyalty to Bersatu, including five MPs and one assemblyperson who had declared support for the Madani coalition.
The move aims to trap the six under Bersatu’s new party rule which would invalidate the membership of any elected representatives who betray the party.
This would then, in theory, trigger the anti-hopping law and force the seats to be vacated.
The six were given 14 days from May 17 to respond.
One rebel MP, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang) said he would not respond.
